This policy explains what Moves (“we,” “us”) collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We don’t sell your personal information and we don’t show ads.
If you leave your email on moves.city, we keep that email and anything else you typed — a first name, a city, whether you’re on Android — so we can tell you when the app opens. We also record which card or poster you scanned, from the code in the link. We email you about Moves and nothing else, and we don’t pass it on. Ask us any time and we’ll delete it.
The site counts visits from each QR code and taps on the App Store button. It doesn’t use advertising cookies and doesn’t follow you around the internet. The map is drawn with OpenStreetMap.
Account: your phone number (to sign you in with a texted code), your first name, and, if you choose, your school.
Location: only while you’re using the app, and only if you allow it. Your phone uses it to show what’s near you and to check that you’re at a spot when you rate it. We save your last location, rounded to about 100 meters, so we can let you know when someone nearby asks about a spot; it’s replaced as you move. Each rating stores the spot and where it was sent from, rounded to about 10 meters. If you were near a spot with the app open and didn’t rate it, we may send you one reminder about that spot — you can turn those off in the app. We never collect your location in the background.
What you post and do: your ratings and notes, the comments, questions and replies you post and your votes on other people’s, your wifi and amenity answers and any changes you suggest, spots you track and how you chose to hear about them, things you report, points disputes you send us, and spots you ask us to add.
Invites: your invite code, who invited you (if anyone), and which friends joined with your code.
Rewards: your points and their history, the rewards you claim, and for each claim the spot, the receipt photo, its date and total, your Venmo username or PayPal email or phone number, and your confirmation that you’re 18 or older.
Device: your push notification token, your phone’s time zone, and whether you use iPhone or Android.
Usage: basic events such as opening the app, viewing a spot, answering a permission prompt, and opening a notification. We use them to understand how Moves is used.
To run Moves: show spot status, give and redeem points, deliver rewards, and send the notifications you asked for (answers to your questions, replies to your comments, updates about spots you track, questions near you, reward and invite updates, points reminders).
To keep Moves accurate and safe: check that ratings come from people at the spot, limit abuse, review reports, and prevent reward fraud.
To improve Moves, mostly with numbers across everyone (for example, how many ratings a spot gets).
To contact you about your account or rewards.
When you sign in, we send a one-time code to your phone number by SMS. This is the only way to sign in to Moves, so these messages are part of the service and can’t be turned off while you have an account. We don’t send marketing texts, and we never sell or share your number.
Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies and depends on how often you sign in. Reply STOP to stop, or HELP for help. Stopping means you can no longer receive sign-in codes, so you won’t be able to sign in. Codes are sent through Twilio, our SMS provider.
Other people see spot status built from everyone’s ratings, notes, comments, questions and replies, and wifi and amenity information confirmed by several people, each without your name or anything that identifies you. We never show who posted them. Votes show only as a total; nobody sees how you voted. Your name, school, phone number and location are not shown to other people.
Invites: your invite code starts with the first letters of your first name, so anyone you share it with sees them. If you join with a friend’s code, they’ll see your first name when you make your first rating.
Companies that help us run Moves, only for that purpose: Supabase (our database and servers), Twilio (sending sign-in codes and checking phone numbers), Cloudflare (blocking bots at sign-in), Expo and Apple (delivering notifications), Apple (maps), Venmo or PayPal (sending your reimbursement, using the username or email you give us and the amount), Resend (emailing our team about reports, receipts and disputes), and OpenRouter and OpenAI (AI tools our team uses to review reports and understand how Moves is used; they never get your phone number or payment details).
Spots: we don’t give spots your personal information. We may share how busy a spot is across everyone, which doesn’t identify anyone.
The law: if we must by law, or to protect people’s safety or our rights. If Moves is sold or merged, your information may move with it under this policy.
Your account information stays until you delete your account.
Ratings, notes, comments, questions and replies stay on Moves because they make up each spot’s history, until you delete them. When you delete your account, they are unlinked from you.
Tracking a spot ends when the time you picked runs out, or when you stop it.
Receipt photos are deleted 90 days after you send them. Notifications are deleted after 30 days, including ones you removed from your list. Usage events are deleted after 13 months.
Location: you can say no or turn it off in Settings; you can still look around Moves but can’t rate. Precise Location must be on to rate.
Notifications: turn them off in your phone’s settings. In the app you can also turn off questions from people nearby, and stop tracking any spot.
Delete your account in the app (your account, then Delete account). This deletes your account, points, rewards, votes, tracked spots, notifications, saved location and receipt photos. Your ratings, notes, comments, questions and replies stay without your name.
To ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to come off the email list, email us.
We use encrypted connections and limit who can see your information. Receipt photos are private to you and the people who review claims. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us if you notice anything wrong.
Moves is for people 13 and over, and you must be 18 or older to claim a reward. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
If we change this policy in a significant way, we’ll let you know in the app before the change takes effect.
